We are also thrilled to announce that we have made a public declaration of our goal of running an eco-friendly business. As of February 2008 Orange Bike Design became a member of the Designer’s Accord, a group of individuals, organizations and businesses committed to a model of social and environmental consciousness.

Being the first adopters in Los Angeles, Orange Bike Design has made a commitment to initiate a dialogue of sustainability with our clients. We have also pledged to do our part for the environment by reducing our annual carbon footprint. To learn more about the Designer’s Accord visit them online at www.designersaccord.org

A bit of inspiration...

Earlier this year we participated in an inspiring campaign. Six Billion Paths to Peace is a project dedicated to promoting a sense of world harmony and interconnectedness. This is achieved by asking individuals to reflect on their lives and take a moment to declare their own personal path to peace.

So what is your path to peace?

How can you help?
• Plant native plants that attract bees
• Use natural alternatives to pesticides
• Support organically grown agriculture
• Promote greater awareness by writing to your Governor in support of Pollinator Week (WE DID - you can too - click here).

The Plight of the Honey Bee

What is  Colony Collapse Disorder and how can you help?

Colony Collapse Disorder (CCD) is a mysterious syndrome affecting beehive colonies nationwide. CCD is characterized by the disappearance of adult bees from the hive. Bees are abandoning their hives never to return and between 2007 and 2008 surveys report managed bee colony losses up to 36%.

Why are bees leaving? Although CCD is not fully understood, experts believe that a combination of threats including pesticides, environmental change-related stresses, mites and immune system viruses are to blame.

Honeybees play an extremely important role in our ecosystem. Either by direct pollination or by pollinating the food that animals eat; bee pollination is responsible for more than one third of the American diet.
